Campaign Story

5,000 Books for Children & Classrooms — Pinellas County is a Giving Foundation for Children (GFC) literacy and inclusion campaign to provide books, storytelling materials, and classroom resources to children, families, classrooms, and community partners across Pinellas County. The campaign goal is $50,000 and a target of 5,000 books and outreach materials. What this campaign will provide Contributions will fund age-appropriate books and read-along materials, inclusion-focused storytelling resources, classroom and family reading bundles, and community outreach packets. Materials are selected to support early literacy, reading at home, classroom engagement, and inclusion of children who are often underserved by traditional book access. Why Pinellas County Pinellas County, in the Tampa Bay region, is the first county campaign in a repeatable GFC model. Starting locally lets GFC focus on careful review, community input, and practical reporting before expanding the model to other counties. The Pinellas effort is designed as a template — what is learned here will inform how GFC supports children, families, and classrooms in future county campaigns. Partner-guided distribution model This campaign is not designed as a simple one-book-per-child giveaway. GFC will use a partner-guided model to place books and reading/outreach materials where they can be used repeatedly and reach children over time. Books and materials may be provided to approved local access points such as classrooms, early-learning settings, daycare centers, libraries, after-school programs, family-resource organizations, nonprofit partners, therapy and community programs, and other child-serving spaces in Pinellas County. Before distribution, GFC will seek input from local partners to understand age ranges, reading levels, language needs, classroom or family-use needs, and the types of books and materials most useful in real reading environments. This helps avoid waste and supports practical book access, literacy awareness, inclusion, family engagement, and shared community responsibility. GFC will track books and materials distributed, partner sites supported, estimated children and families reached, and verified feedback or stories where appropriate. Public updates will be shared after review and approval. How support will be used The $50,000 campaign budget is planned as follows: - $35,000 — Books, literacy materials, and child/family reading resources - $7,500 — Printing, outreach packets, and classroom/community materials - $5,000 — Local distribution, partner coordination, and program support - $2,500 — Donor reporting, campaign documentation, and impact tracking Sponsorship and community support This is a multi-source campaign. Support may come from individual donors, corporate sponsors, grants, store programs, foundations, and community partners. Sponsorship levels include: - Founding Community Sponsor — $10,000+ - Regional Literacy Sponsor — $5,000+ - Classroom Sponsor — $2,500+ - Book Sponsor — $1,000+ - Community Supporter — $250+ Sponsor and grant recognition is offered after support is verified, public wording is approved, and any applicable brand or recognition guidelines are followed. Impact tracking and updates GFC will track and report on books and materials distributed, children and families reached, classrooms and community partners supported, partner organizations engaged, outreach packets shared, and feedback or stories collected where appropriate. As campaign activity develops, GFC will share verified partner, distribution, and impact updates after review. Historical continuity GFC has served children, families, and communities since 2014. The 5,000 Books county campaign model builds on that broader history of child-centered causes, book and storytelling work, internships, donor-supported outreach, and community engagement. Pinellas is the first county campaign in that model — an extension of GFC's longer work, presented through a clearer county-by-county structure.
