Academic & University Partnerships Intern
Helps GFC understand university placement systems and build repeatable institutional relationships that can support structured Team GFC student opportunities.
Accepting applications
Overview
Giving Foundation for Children (GFC) is seeking an Academic & University Partnerships Intern to help GFC understand how universities structure student placements and build stronger, repeatable relationships with colleges and universities.
The role focuses on faculty, academic departments, program directors, internship and practicum coordinators, experiential-learning offices, service-learning programs, and other university stakeholders involved in structured student opportunities.
The goal is not simply to contact schools. The intern helps GFC understand how different academic programs operate, which Team GFC opportunities may align with them, what placement requirements exist, and what GFC may need to improve internally to become easier for universities to work with.
Responsibilities
- Research universities and academic programs that may align with GFC's internship and Fellowship opportunities.
- Identify appropriate faculty, department, internship, practicum, experiential-learning, and service-learning contacts.
- Research placement requirements such as hours, supervision, evaluations, academic credit, host-site agreements, and related processes.
- Map existing GFC opportunities to relevant majors and academic programs.
- Build and maintain a structured academic-partnership pipeline.
- Prepare research briefs and outreach materials before approved university conversations.
- Support approved introductions, follow-up, and informational conversations.
- Document requirements, decisions, blockers, and recommended next actions.
- Identify recurring university requirements and recommend changes GFC should consider to make Team GFC opportunities easier to use for structured academic placements.
- Recommend where GFC should focus institutional relationship-building first.
- Interns are expected to make recommendations and propose improvements; recommendations do not become GFC policy, commitments, partnerships, or programs until reviewed and approved by GFC leadership.
Example projects
### Build GFC's Academic Partnership Pipeline
Build an academic-partnership pipeline for a selected group of universities showing:
the relevant academic program;
the appropriate institutional contact;
placement requirements;
GFC role fit;
current status;
recommended next action; and
any changes GFC should consider before pursuing the relationship.
The goal is to help GFC understand which relationships genuinely fit, what each program requires, and where GFC should invest its limited time and effort.
Who this is for
A thoughtful, organized, research-oriented student who communicates professionally, is comfortable working with detailed information, and can turn research into clear recommendations.
The strongest candidate should be comfortable identifying the right person inside an institution, understanding different academic processes, organizing information clearly, following up consistently, and thinking about how individual university relationships could become repeatable systems.
Experience with university administration, student services, academic programs, internships, experiential learning, research, outreach, partnerships, or nonprofit work may be helpful but is not required.
What you'll learn
- Practical experience in university partnership development, institutional research, stakeholder mapping, nonprofit operations, experiential-learning systems, professional outreach, pipeline management, documentation, and relationship development.
- You will also gain experience evaluating institutional requirements, identifying operational gaps, and helping a nonprofit improve how it structures student opportunities.
Commitment
This is currently an unpaid internship-style volunteer opportunity with Giving Foundation for Children Inc.
The role is remote-first and may involve research or approved conversations with colleges and universities throughout Florida and potentially elsewhere.
Students seeking academic credit, practicum participation, internship approval, or another university requirement must confirm eligibility with their institution.
Interns may research programs, identify contacts, prepare outreach, maintain records, draft follow-ups, propose improvements, and support approved conversations.
GFC leadership retains responsibility for formal partnerships, university agreements, host-site representations, supervision commitments, academic-credit claims, legal or compliance statements, and final decisions about whether GFC can satisfy a university's requirements.
GFC does not independently grant academic credit, approve CPT/OPT, guarantee practicum placement, or determine whether a university's requirements have been satisfied.
Academic credit, CPT/OPT approval, recommendations, and future employment are not guaranteed.
