Communications Intern

Supports clear, accurate, mission-aligned nonprofit communications across GFC's website, email, newsletters, campaigns, public relations, outreach materials, and other public-facing content.

Overview

GFC uses communications to help explain its child-focused mission, Programs, initiatives, campaigns, partnerships, and community work clearly and accurately. A Communications Intern may help develop and improve public-facing content while learning how nonprofit communications support awareness, outreach, fundraising, and organizational credibility.

Responsibilities

  • Help develop and improve clear, accurate public-facing communications
  • Support website, email, newsletter, campaign, public relations, and outreach content
  • Adapt approved source material into audience-appropriate messaging
  • Review communications for clarity, tone, terminology, consistency, and factual support
  • Organize reusable messaging, source references, and communications materials
  • Support communications Projects based on current GFC priorities

Example projects

Depending on current GFC priorities, examples could include: Refreshing messaging for the 5,000 Books for Children & Classrooms campaign Drafting a GFC newsletter or organizational update for review Preparing an outreach or partnership communications package using approved GFC materials Reviewing a section of the GFC website and recommending clearer public-facing copy

Who this is for

A dependable writer and editor with strong communication skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, careful source use, and willingness to revise work. Coursework or experience in communications, journalism, public relations, English, nonprofit management, or related areas may be helpful but is not required.

What you'll learn

  • You'll have opportunities to gain practical nonprofit communications experience across writing, editing, public relations, campaign messaging, digital communications, and organizational storytelling. You'll receive direct GFC review and feedback and may develop polished, portfolio-quality examples from approved Projects.

Commitment

This is currently an unpaid volunteer / internship-style opportunity with Giving Foundation for Children Inc. Exact schedule, participation dates, university requirements, academic-credit requirements, and approved variations are confirmed individually with GFC. Academic credit, CPT/OPT approval, recommendations, and future employment are not guaranteed.
