Overview
GFC’s books-and-literacy work benefits from understanding how schools, libraries, nonprofits, and community programs approach literacy and learning before GFC develops or expands its own activities.
An Education & Literacy Research Intern may help research program models, curricula, learning resources, and inclusive approaches and organize findings for GFC review.
Responsibilities
- Research literacy and early-childhood learning approaches
- Research inclusive and special-needs education models and resources
- Review curricula, books, learning materials, and community literacy resources
- Compare program approaches, intended audiences, evidence, and limitations
- Organize resources and findings into clear categories and comparisons
- Prepare research summaries and recommendations for GFC review

Reviewing evidence on early-childhood literacy approaches
Comparing literacy or learning resources for different age groups or needs
Researching inclusive-education approaches relevant to children with special needs
Preparing a resource map or comparison brief for a GFC literacy Initiative
Who this is for
A thoughtful researcher with interest in literacy, education, child development, or inclusive learning and strong source judgment, organization, and written communication skills. Related coursework or experience may be helpful but is not required.
What you'll learn
- You’ll have opportunities to build practical experience in education research, literacy-program analysis, resource evaluation, inclusive-learning research, and nonprofit program planning. You’ll receive direct GFC review and feedback and may develop sanitized research briefs or resource comparisons for a portfolio.
